Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 58th Street

Fifth Ave., at 58th Street, showing the Pulitzer Memorial Fountain, located on the west side of the Ave., between 59th and 58th Streets. This area is known as the Grand Army Plaza. It was erected in 1915 to the memory of Joseph Pulitzer, former owner of the New York World, and was sculptured by Karl Bitter. The fountain is surmounted by a bronze female figure symbolizing Abundance, bearing a basket laden with the fruits of the earth. It is often referred to as the Fountain of Abundance. At the extreme left appears a portion of the Savoy-Plaza Hotel, at the N.E. corner of East 58th Street, and (center) a portion of the Squibbs Building, at the S.E. corner of the latter street. 1936.
