George Washington Bridge: A northward view up the North (Hudson) River showing the cables and piers of the uncompleted structure. Manhattan is on the right and New Jersey on the left. Note the United States Navy vessels off of Riverside Drive. View No. 2 is a close up of the Manhattan base. Note here, at the left, the small lighthouse on a promontory, the historic significance of which goes back to the Revolution, as it was from here that the chains extended across the River.
