Manhattan: Riverside Drive - 122nd Street (West)

(1) Riverside Drive, west side, at West 122nd Street, showing the Tomb of General U.S. Grant. The body of Grant, hero of the Civil War, to whom General Lee of the Confederacy surrendered at Appomattox, and twice President of the United States, and that of his wife, lie in two caskets on a sunken level within this monument. The Tomb is open to the public and is a major point of interest to visitors to the metropolis. This view is southward from a point in Riverside Park and shows the northern (left) and western (right) sides of the Mausoleum. The towered structure in the background is the Riverside Baptist Church, at the S.E. corner of West 122nd Street and the Drive. It is often called the Rockefeller Church; it having been built by the Rockefeller family. P. L. Sperr. June 2, 1935. At the extreme right appears a part of the International House, which is on the east side of the Drive, slightly north of West 122nd Street. It is a unit of Columbia University. P. L. Sperr.
