Manhattan: Washington Square West - 4th Street
Washington Square West, from 4th Street to Washington Place, showing the twin 7-story buildings of the Holley Hotel in the center of the block. This is one of the three original Knott hotels, and was named after Alexander J. Holley, of whom a bust has stood in Washington Square since 1890. The 3-story building on the corner of Washington Place, a part of the hotel, will be torn down in 1930 and replaced by the 16-story Holley Chambers. The three houses in the southern half of the block will also be replaced by a tall apartment building. December 28, 1927. P. L. Sperr.
