1. Second Avenue, west side, north from E. 98th to 99th (right) Streets, showing Harlem tenements alternating with clearances. The latter are a direct result of the enforcement of the Tenement House Law requiring minimum conformance. Originally these buildings housed European tenants for whom they were constructed.
