Meeker Ave., south side, between Gard
er Ave., and Newtown Creek, alleged to have been built by Humphrey Clay in 1667, it stood until 1921 when it was demolished about 50 or 60 ft. from Newtown Creek. The owners of this property are as follows: patented in 1646 by Adam Mott who sold to William Goulding; who sold to Clandine Barbine and Anthony Jerve of Newgate Kills; who sold to Jacob Steendam in 1653. It was again patented by Humphrey Clay in 1667. He operated a ferry here as late as 1670. His son Clay sold to Alexander Baird of Hempstead, who left it to his wife Magdaleun. The first recorded sale is in 1749, from Josiah Paterson to Joost Dorre, who by will in 1793 left his real estate of Bushwick and Newtown to his sons, George and Peter. The former conveyed to Peter in 1795, the latters will convey in 1828 part to Anthony Hulst and the rest including the house to John Reis. From 1880 to 1924 William Blesser, and his heirs were owners.
