Van Cortlandt Park: A view of the cairn of stones on Indian Field. The cairn is situated on the west side of Van Cortlandt Park East, at the head of West 237th Street and is dedicated to the Stockbridge Indians. The inscription of the tablet reads: August 31, 1778. Upon this field Chief Nimham And seventeen Stockbridge Indians As Allies of the Patriots, Gave their lives for Liberty. Erected by Bronx Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution Mount Vernon, N.Y. June 14, 1906. Gift of Randall Comfort. 1906.
