First Avenue, east side, north from East 18th to 19th Streets. Shown at the latter point is a station of the 2nd Avenue "El" line. The Gramercy Theatre is a local movie house. Overhead is a gas-holder of the Consolidated Edison Company. This is one of those located in the 20th to 22nd Street area. Incidentally this area was the scene of one of the bloody frays attending the Draft Riots of the Civil War. Details of this are to be found in Dennis Lynch's "Boss Tweed." July 19, 1939 Views 1,2 P.
