West 57th Street (center, left to right), at Eleventh Ave. (left), as viewed in a northward direction from 56th Street and across the future site of the Sheffield Farms milk plant, showing the diagonal rock cut roadway of the New York Central Railroad tracks which will pass beneath this structure and continue in a northward direction to the 60th Street yards (center, background). Completion of this phase of the West Side Project will eliminate the use of the street bed of the Ave. for Railroad purposes as observed on the right at the base of the I.R.T. power plant between 58th and 59th Streets. 1937. Gift of New York Central System. Publicity Bureau.
