Manhattan: Charlton Street - Varick Street

Charlton Street, north side, east from No. 65, west of Varick Street, to the eastern end of Charlton Street at MacDougal and Prince Streets. The old houses 65 to 57, adjoining and at the N.W. corner, were demolished in January 1926. The Greybar-Varick Building, across the way on the east side of Varick Street, shown nearing completion, took out Nos. 53-45 Charlton Street, inclusive. In the middle of the street, in front of about No. 35, is the site of the Richmond Hill house, where Presidents Washington and Adams both lived, and which was the house of Aaron Burr at the time he shot Alexander Hamilton. Charlton Street was originally called Betty Street or Burr Street, but received its present name in 1807. April 23, 1930. P. L. Sperr
