Manhattan: Broadway - Barclay Street

229-237 Broadway, west side, from Barclay Street to Park place, showing at this location, the 55 story Woolworth Bldg. The general direction is northward from a vantage point at No. 165 Broadway (City Investing Bldg.) in views 1, 2, and 3. View 4 is photographed from No. 30 Church Street. Broadway is the thoroughfare clearly shown at the right. Note the spire of St. Pauls Chapel, the quadrangular Astor House, the ornate Post Office, City Hall Park and the white marble Sun (formerly A. T. Stewarts) Building. The St. Paul Bldg. appears at the right margin of views 1 and 3. Today, (1939) this view is more or less the same. The most radical change is the replacement of the old Astor House by the 44 storied Transportation Bldg. and the present demolition of the Post Office.
