Manhattan: 6th Avenue - 53rd Street (West)

(1) Sixth Avenue, at the S.W. corner of W. 53rd Street, showing the Sixth Avenue "El" turning westward on 53rd Street. The last train on this line was run at 10:30 P.M. Sunday, December 4, 1938; the city taking ownership as of December 5, preparatory to the demolition of same. P.L. Sperr. (2) Another view of the same location photographed in a southwesterly direction from the N.E. corner of this point showing the last train on its northward trip rounding the bend. Across same appear buildings at the N.W. corner of 52nd Street which are to be demolished and their site improved with a modern apartment house.
