Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 41st Street

Madison Avenue at S.E. corner of 41st Street, showing the old Thompson Mansion as remodelled for the use of the American Trust Company, after this property was acquired by the American Trust Company and the New York Title and Mortgage Company, in January 1924. In 1929 the Lefcourt Colonial Building will rise on this site. By contrast with the picture of this corner about 1922, this view shows less of Madison Avenue and all of the south side of 41st Street east to the farther side of Park Avenue. Note the Chemists' Club, 50-54 East 41st Street, also the old-fashioned iron balconies and fire escape on the Murray Hill Hotel at the S.W. corner of Park Avenue and 41st Street.
