Manhattan: Cherry Street - Rutgers Street

Cherry Street, east from a point (No. 264, tenement at left in No. 2) slightly above Rutgers Street. View 1 favors the southerly side with stables thereupon. A clearance appears at Jefferson Street. View 2 is of the tenements on the opposing side. The W.P.A. slum clearance demolition seen is a portion of a wide program designed to enforce rehabilitation. This site was formerly occupied by tenements that bore No's. 266 and 268. A notice of same appeared in the N. Y. Sun of February 23, 1939. Beyond is a 6 story stable that adjoins the Beth Israel Hospital. The latter is at the S. W. corner of Jefferson Street. The lower portions of these features are depicted in View No. 3.
