Queens: 19th Road - Hazen Street

19th Road, north side, east from Hazen Street to Nineteenth Avenues, showing in 4 views the Rapelje house. Bowery Bay Cemetery in the rear of the house contains markers of the 18th century for members of the Rapelje, Cornell, Riker, Luyster and other families. Chas. Rapelje (born 1786), purchased in 1830 the farm formerly owned by Daniel Riker. The estate of Chas. Rapelje, subsequent to his death in 1834, was given to his children David P., Isaac C., Catherine M., and Lavina P. Rapelje. The center room of this house was erected by Abraham Rycken who was the son of a first settler. He died in 1770. Daniel Riker who inherited it from his father Jacobus sold it in 1827 to Charles Rapelje. This house stands on the probable site of the Harek Sloutsen house. He settled here in 1650. In 1729 his son Jacobus willed the farm to his nephew Abraham Lent.
