A general view of the midtown Manhattan 34th to 42nd St. zone as photographed northwestward from the New York Life Insurance Bldg. at Madison Square. The distinctive unfin- ished structure in the center is the Empire State Bldg. at Fifth Avenue and 34th Street. To the left are, the Navarre Bldg. at Seventh Avenue and 38th Street, the partially com- pleted Nelson Towers at Seventh Avenue and 34th Street, and the squat Hotel New Yorker at Eighth Avenue and 34th Street. The Grand Central-42nd Street skyline is to the right. No. 500 Fifth Avenue is being built at 42nd Street. To the east are the No. 10 East 40th Street Bldg., the Lefcourt-Colonial Bldg., and the Lincoln Bldg. The last two apparently blend together, tho the shadow of the first is cast upon the last.
