Queens: Queens Boulevard - 70th Avenue

Queens Boulevard, south side (of the old Hoffman Boulevard) between Seventieth Avenue (right) and 70th Road (left), showing John H. Backus' house. The one-story shed at the extreme right of the house does not show in the 1927 Queens Atlas. John E. Backus, son of Ascan Backus was born in 1946 and join his ancestors in 1911. In 1873, he married Phoebe S. Vanderveer, daughter of Isaac W. Vanderveer and grand daughter of John R. Pitkin. The sons of this union were T. Eugene Backus and I Wyckoff Backus.
