Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 36th Street (East)

Madison Avenue, west side, from 39th to 36th Streets, showing the Heckscher Building newly erected on the S.W. corner of 38th Street, and houses between 38th and 39th Streets, which still stand in 1935. The Heckscher Building was erected on the site of the old Theodore A. Havemeyer residence (built about 1870), which was bought by August Heckscher in 1915 and demolished in October of that year. Erection of this 16-story building was unsuccessfully contested in court by J. P. Morgan and other Murray Hill residents. 1916 or early 1917.
