Manhattan: 2nd Street - Bowery
East 2nd Street, east from the Bowery and showing a gasoline station under construction at the S.E. corner. This cleared area included a row of old 2? story frame and brick buildings that were at the extremity of Extra Place. The buildings on the opposite side hide the Marble Cemetery which is in the center of that block and is a forgotten God's acre. No. 2 depicts a portion of the view seen in No. 1 and includes buildings numbered 14 to 22 inclusive. The photographer is at the northern extremity of Extra Place and is viewing northward across the clearance seen in No. 1. No.3 is westward from the same vantage point taken in No. 2 though in a westward direction, to and across the Bowery. Past that point, this thoroughfare becomes Bond Street. The building at the N.W. corner of that street and the Bowery is a bank, name unknown to the writer. Note the Third Avenue elevated line running north and southward on the Bowery. July 16, 1938.
