Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 70th Street

Lenox Library, Fifth Avenue, East Side, from 70th to 71st Streets. Built in 1875 from funds donated by James Lenox, whose collection of books, manuscripts, missels (?),incunabula, etc., was made in this way available to the public, it stood until around 1912; when the library was consolidated with the Astor Library to form the New York Public Library. The building was then demolished, and the mansion of Henry Clay Frick erected on the site. 1903. The Tonnele' Co., Photographers.
