Manhattan: 36th Street (West) - 11th Avenue
West 36th Street (foreground), and east of the S.E. corner of Eleventh Ave. (extreme right), showing various aspects of the major track removal program of the New York Central Railroad; a portion of the West Side Improvement Project. The former R.H. Macy warehouse is shown in a state of metamorphosis, the understructure of which has been rebuilt to permit the railroad tracks in the rock cut to pass underneath and thereby join those in the yard on the westerly side of the Avenue. The photographer is viewing in a southwestward direction from a point on the north side of 36th Street alongside of the aforementioned road bed. June 25, 1937.
