Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 26th Street (East)

(1) Madison Avenue at 26th Street, an aerial view, showing the north eastern corner of the square, showing Madison Square Garden (1890-1925) on the N.E. corner, and on the S.E. corner the Manhattan Club, originally the residence of Lawrence Jerome, dating back to the 1860's. The porticos over the Madison Avenue sidewalk are being removed, to permit the widening of Madison Avenue. As the Garden is already scheduled for demolition, no effort was made to repair the necessary damages resulting from this, as a photograph of the Garden at the start of demolition shows.
