General view - [Manhattan (East) from the Produce Exchange.]

A general view eastward from the Produce Exchange (according to belief of the writer). In the background is the East River and its Brooklyn Bridge. The foreground area is traversed by (reading from left to right) Beaver, South William, Stone, Pearl, Water and Front Streets. South Street of course fringes the water front. Across the bottom runs Broad Street. The distinctive structure in the center is the N. Y. Cotton Exchange Building at Hanover Square. Note the 2nd and 3rd Avenues Elevated Line station there on Pearl Street. Coenties Slip would be on the right if included. About 1884 N. Y. Edison Company
