Queens: Dane Place - Fleet Street

Dane Place, east from Fleet Street. In the center of the view partially around the bend of the Road is the Springsteen house. Casper Springsteen came to Newtown about 1700. His son Joost Derrick settled in Kent County on the Delaware River. Another son Jacobus gave the site for the White Pot Schoolhouse. Casper's son Casper Jr. born in 1725 inherited the Hempstead Swamp farm. He married Barbara Bloom of the Wallabout. Their son David inherited the farm and a new house. He married Phebe Striker of Flatbush. Their son M.S. Springsteen followed as owner. He married Alletta B. Duryea of Jamaica, their offspring David, who married Anna W. Monfort was the last owner. He died in 1912 and his widow Mrs. Springsteen sold the property in December 1928. May 1923 Eugene L. Armbruster Collection
