Peddlers-foodstuff: Orchard Street, and its variegated merchandise; a Manhattan scene long identified with this East Side thoroughfare. January of 1940 will see the last of this, as at that date the new Essex Street Municipal Market will be opened and a City ordinance abolishing pushcarts enforced. There are four views in this series and the photographer's vantage point is between Stanton and Rivington Streets. January 6, 1940 Gift of Beecher Ogden (No. 1)
