Manhattan: Park Avenue - 40th Street

(1) Park Avenue, west side, from 40th to 41st Streets, showing the old Murray Hill Hotel, which dates back to the 1870's, against a background of modern skyscrapers. To the right is the Lincoln Building, completed late in 1929, at 60 East 42nd Street, and to the left the Lefcourt Colonial Building (1929) on the S.W. corner of Madison Avenue and 41st Street and the Murray Hill Offices building (1926), which together take up the entire east side of Madison Avenue from 41st to 40th Streets. Behind the latter, to the left of the Lefcourt tower, may be seen the top of 500 Fifth Avenue, completed on the N.W. corner of 42nd Street in January 1931. December 2, 1931. P. L. In the block above the Murray Hill, from 41st to 42nd Streets, the Hotel Belmont has been demolished. Through the gap thus created may be seen the west side of Vanderbilt Avenue at 43rd Street; the Hotel Biltmore (erected about 1914) is the building shown in part on the N.W. corner.
