Manhattan: Broadway - Warren Street

Broadway, at the S. W. corner of Warren Street, as photographed from the enclosed City Hall Park. Note the posters on one of the stone gate supports. They read "Murder-Rom(an)-Catholics" and "California". The riot of 1871 caused by the attack of the Irish Catholics on the parading Orangemen, and the Gold Rush to California leads the writer to the concluded date of 1871 instead of the given 1854. 1871 Gift of Urbrock Collection
