Queens: Main Street - 38th Avenue
Main Street, north of the N.W. corner of Thirty-eighth Ave. (left), showing at the corner the D. Master's House of 1873. In 1874 Miss S.O. Hoffman's school for girls was conducted in this house. It had only day students. In 1876 a limited number of boarders were here. Mrs. Master succeeded Miss Hoffman. Dr. Hans Schuler purchased the school in 1888 and organized the Flushing Female Seminary. In 1926 the building stands but is no longer used as a seminary. It has had the boards removed and has been finished with stucco. Eugene L. Armbruster Collection. 1922.
