Manhattan: Pershing Square - 41st Street (East)
Pershing Square (Park Avenue), east side, from East 41st (right) to 42nd (left), Street's, showing the Grand Union Hotel of the 1890's. This structure was demolished in the Summer of 1914, and was later replaced with the present Pershing Square Building. The 40th-42nd Street area acquired this designation in honor of the Commander in Chief of the American Expeditionary Force in France about this time. It was originally Fourth Avenue, a section of which was changed to Park Avenue. About 1914 Gift of Urbrock Collection
