The Twenties The Twenties ended with a bang, or rather, a crash. On October 29, 1929 - forever to be known as Black Tuesday - the stock market, swollen by years of reckless gambling, collapsed with a roar heard 'round the world. The loss was to be $50 billion. The party was over and the time to pay the piper was at hand. 1929.
