Manhattan: Canal Street - Thompson Street

(1) Canal Street, north side, from Thompson Street to West Broadway (formerly South Fifth Avenue), seen from the eastern end of Laight Street. September 24, 1927. P. L. Sperr. (2) The same, a year later, seen from York Street at West Broadway, across the site of the buildings between York and Canal Streets. Canal Street is being supported on stilts which the construction of the subway goes on underneath; the view at the left is practically north along the future east side of Sixth Avenue. Krist's Bakery, the light house with the dormer window, is No. 387 Canal Street. In the background of both these views may be seen the steeple of St. Alphonsus' Roman Catholic Church.
