Manhattan: 6th Avenue - 34th Street (West)

(1) 6th Avenue, south from W. 34th Street, showing the "El" structure and its 33rd Street Station. This was mainly patronized by shoppers to Gimbels, Sak's and Macys. The first two of these enterprises appear here occupying the 34th - 33rd and 33rd-32nd Street frontages. Note the interstore bridge connecting these. Views 2 and 3 show the absence of the "El" and the station remaining. This will remain for about a month and then join the balance of this structure. Underground, at this date, the 6th Avenue Subway is under construction. At the left is Broadway, which intersects with 6th Avenue and leaves two triangular parks; the southerly of which (Greeley Square) appears partially here. Views 1,2 and 3: April 5, 1939. P.L.Sperr
