Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 26th Street (East)

Madison Avenue, east side; at 26th Street, showing the New York Life Insurance Company Building, on the N. E. corner, and the Manhattan Club, once the Lawrence Jerome residence, on the S. E. corner. The New York Life acquired this site in 1915 by foreclosing a mortgage on Madison Square Garden, which had occupied this site since 1889. In 1925 they decided to demolish the master-piece of Stanford White, and to erect their own building, designed by Cass Gilbert, in its place. About 1929. Browning Studios.
