Manhattan: 36th Street (East) - 1st Avenue

East 36th Street, west from First avenue, showing the cleared area extending 1 block square and which will provide an entrance to the new Midtown - Queens Tunnel. Standing alone is the New York Public Library Branch. This will come down in early 1940. The tenements at the right line the north side of East 37th Street. Forming a backdrop are skyscrapers, which from left to right (collective views) are, the Empire State, the 10 East 40th Street, the New York Trust, the Lefcourt Colonial, the 500( Fifth Avenue, the Lincoln, the Chanin and the Chrysler Buildings.
