Manhattan: 11th Avenue - 34th Street

11th Avenue, north from W. 34th Street, showing prominently the westerly side of this thoroughfare. At the left, occupying the 34th to 35th Street frontage is the former Manhattan Market of 1871. This has been reduced to a one story building in View 1 and partially removed in View 2. The street sides will come down in 1938 and thereby clear the entire block. In the midground are buildings at 36th Street. The largest is the Williams Printing House. This occupies the 36th to 37th Street frontage and will remain; those to its rear being removed in May 1938. Note the towering R. H. Macy and Company warehouse on the right. The lower stories are being reconstructed to permit an underground railway to pass through its basement on its way under 11th Avenue.
