Queens: Main Avenue - Vernon Boulevard
(1) Main Ave., adjoining the N.W. corner of Vernon Boulevard, showing the Rapelye Mansion. There is a dispute as to its identity. Eugene L. Armbruster states it is the Cornelius Rapelye house; one Van Rieper states it to be the Tavern; another, Mr. Roe S. Johnson states that this was the Trafford house and was also used as a tavern. Eugene L. Armbruster's history on this subject is that John Trafford married Grace Rapelye, sister of C. Rapelye, who erected this house in 1780. It was occupied by C. R. Trafford in 1873. Eugene L.
