Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 41st Street

Fifth Avenue, east side, from East 41st (right) to 44th (extreme left)Streets as viewed from the Reservoir. At the right is Rutgers Female College founded in 1838 by Chancellor Ferris occupying the 41st-42nd Street frontage. Later they will move to 56 West 55th Street. Temple Emanu-El is at the N.E. corner of 43rd Street. Erected in 1868, it will be removed in 1927 for the Lafcourt-National Bldg. About 1875 H.N. Tiemann, photo Gift of Urbrock Collection
