Manhattan: 70th Street - York Avenue
70th Street at and east of York Avenue, seen across the clearing from 69th Street east of York Avenue. The photographer is standing near the site of the Lenox Hill Settlement House and Neighborhood Club, 511-515 East 69th Street. The south side of 70th Street is marked by the wooden fence. On the north side of 70th Street the buildings are being demolished. This block, from 69th to 70th Streets, used to be Washington Park, prior to about 1895, and then was built up, mostly with tenement houses. It will now be part of the site of the New York Hospital and Cornell Medical College, (see York Avenue). P. L. Sperr. August 21, 1929.
