Manhattan: Washington Square - 5th Avenue

Washington Square Park: Washington Arch, Washington Square, seen from the north so as to show the Judson Memorial Baptist Church (1892) framed in the archway, and the fountain in the center of the park. The church stands on the S.W. corner of Thompson Street and Washington Square South (4th Street). This arch was built around 1890; the wooden one designed by Stanford White for the Centenary of President Washington's inauguration, in 1889, was so well liked that it was decided to erect a permanent arch of stone, which White also designed.
