Manhattan: 11th Avenue - 34th Street (West)

Eleventh Ave. (center, fore to background), south from West 35th Street, showing constructional aspects of the track removal program of the New York Central Railroad as their portion of the West Side Improvement Project. The photographer's vantage point is the former R.H. Macy warehouse at 35th Street and he shows about one-third of the Eleventh Ave. stretch and one-half of the 34th Street stretch elevated to their new levels. This will be continued southward on the Avenue for an additional 5 blocks and the yard tracks that now cross it at grade will be rebuilt several feet below their present grade and on a radically different pattern.
