Manhattan: Wall Street - Nassau Street

Wall Street (right), at and adjoining the N. E. corner of Nassau Street (left), showing the U. S. Subtreasury and it's adjacent Assay Office. The latter was removed in 1916 and reconstructed in the American wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On the left margin appears the 5 story Mechanics & Metals National Bank, occupying the Nassau Street frontage from Pine to Cedar Street's. This structure was subsequently replaced with the modern Chase National Bank Building. Note the absence of the J. Q. A. Ward statue of Washington on the steps of the Sub Treasury. This work of art was unveiled November 26, 1883, the day following Evacuation Day. Prior to 1883 Gift of Urbrock Collection
