Manhattan: 14th Street (West) - 8th Avenue

310-312 (old Nos. 198-200) West 14th Street, south side, west of Eighth Avenue, the western two houses of a group of five, probably all alike, of the 1850 period. 14th Street has always been numbered east and west from Fifth Avenue, but it was not always the custom to start with a fresh hundred at every numbered avenue. The older Dagget and Handdall Building (six stories), at 314 adjoining, replaced an old residence some time between 1902 and 1910. The occasion of making this photograph was probably the purchase of those two houses, with 306-308 adjoining, by the interests that demolished them and then erected a double six-story apartment house n the site About 1912
