Manhattan: MacDougal Street - Houston Street

(1) Macdougal Street, west side, from Houston Street to West 3rd (formerly Amity) Street, where the Sixth Avenue Elevated crosses Macdougal Street, and north. In the background is one of the new apartment houses on Washington Square West (q.v.), and at the end of the vista the Empire State Building, the tallest office building in the world. 59 Macdougal Street at the S.W. corner of Houston, and 61 to 67 inclusive, at and adjoining the N.W. corner, were demolished late in 1929 when work began on the Houston Street branch of the Independent (municipal) Subway.
