Manhattan: York Avenue - 68th Street

York Avenue (Avenue A), east side, north from 68th Street. The building on the N.E. corner of 68th Street is only slightly in the picture; it is the old "Century" apartment house. 68th to 69th Streets is the old site of Jones Woods Coliseum (to about 1895, known in 1891 as Empire City Coliseum). 1294-1304 Avenue A, from 69th to 70th Streets, were built after 1902. That block used to be Washington Park. From 70th to 71st Streets may be seen the old cigar factories. The white building, from 71st to 72nd Streets, is the new plant of P. Lorillard Company, built since 1920 on the site of the old Clausen malt house. Everything from 68th to 71st Streets is about to be demolished. February 13, 1928. P. L. Sperr.
