Manhattan: 14th Street (West) - 8th Avenue

14th Street, sourth side, from Eighth Avenue to Hudson Street and Ninth Avenue, inclusive, showing the New York County National Bank in its marble building, 77-9 Eighth Avenue on the S.W. corner of 14th Street, erected around 1906 on the site of its older location, 79 Eighth Avenue. By 1934 this building will be occupied by a branch of the Manufacturers Trust Company. Adjoining the bank is 306-12 West 14th Street, a double apartment house built around 1913 or 1914 (see 310-12 West 14th Street, about 1912), and beyond it what used to be the Daggett & Ramsdell Building, 314 West 14th Street. In the middle of the block stands St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church (1873-5). On the eastern side of Eighth Avenue, 14th Street is partially boarded over, as work is in progress on the extension (opened 1932) of the B. M. T. 14th Street subway. May 31, 1930. P. L. Sperr.
