Manhattan: Broadway - Exchange Place

50-44, 42 and 34-32 Broadway, adjoining and south of the S.E. corner of Exchange Place, showing the 4-story Standard Arcade, No. 50-44, prior to demolition. On the extreme right appears a portion of the Custom House. No. 50 was the site of the first skyscraper, the Tower Building, a 12-story steel structure erected in 1888 and demolished in 1914. The Standard Arcade Building bore an inscription to that effect. A 36 story structure occupies this site since 1927. For further information see, The New York Sun, Saturday September 4, 1937. 1926.
