Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 38th Street (East)

(1) Madison Avenue, west side, north from W. 38th Street. (intersection in foreground). In the left foreground, between 38th and 39th Street are low structures, (the property of the Baker family) that will with the exclusion of No. 262 Madison Avenue (S.w. corner of 39th St.) be demolished in the Spring of 1939. This row consists of 4 structures which are respectively, the Professional Building, the George F. Baker home, his sons house,and his daughters (Mrs. Wm. Goadby Loew) home. The last is the brownstone and is referred to ahove as remaining. The Henry Street Nurses have rurchased same and will renovate it to conform with their purposes (Fall 1939). October 2, 1931 P.L.Sperr (2) View No. 2 is photographed across the lot on the east side of the Avenue and is directed towards 39th Street. The 3 office buildings shown are on the 39th - 4Oth Street frontage. October 2, 1931 P.L.Sperr (3) View No. 3 is taken during the afore mentioned demolition and shows the elder Bakers home and his sons. At the right is the already rehabilitated Henry Street Nurses headquarters. In the left background of all three views appears a portion of the towering building. No. 10 East 49th Street.
