Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 9th Street (East)

23 to 27 Fifth Avenue, at adjoining and north of the N.E. corner of E. 9th Street. The corner structure (no. 23) was occupied for many years by Major-General Daniel E. Sickles of Gettysburg fame. As a matter of fact, he died here. In 1921 these buildings were demolished and a 13 story apartment house erected upon their sites and which is still standing in 1939. at the right are two structures, No's 3 and 5 E. 9th Street, that still stand today (1939) and are the property of William Snittenham. At the time this photo was taken No 3 was owned by Fredk. W. Whitridge and No. 5 by Harry W. Bankard. About 1920 Gift of E.M. Jenks.
