Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 23rd Street

Madison Avenue, east side, from 23rd to 24th Streets. In the centre is the Metropolitan Life Insurance Building, whose expansion will devour the brownstone church on the left. This is the Madison Square Presbyterian Church (1854-1906) from whose pulpit Dr. Charles Parkhurst waged unceasing war on Tammany Hall until that organization was temporarily, at least, overthrown, and its leader, Richard Croker, driven into exile. 1894.
