Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 23rd Street (East)

Madison Avenue, east side, from East 23rd (right) to 24th Streets, showing the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. tower under construction. This, completed occupation of this entire block. Eventually the block north will be similarly included. The photographer is viewing north eastward towards a background of midtown-eastside tenements and the East River. Close observation will show the J. J. Little & Ives printing plant and units of Bellevue Hospital at the latter point. At the right is 4th Avenue and the Packard Commercial School at the N. E. corner. To the left appears the new and distinctive structure recently erected by the Insurance Co. for the Madison Square Presbyterian Church. Stanford White was the architect.
